From Goal to Strategy

First Christian Church Lead Metrics

Increase the number of households giving at least $3000 by 10% in the next 12 months

Understanding the principles that guide our actions towards the achievement of set goals is of great importance. Clear and measurable actions, what we call 'lead metrics', are foundational to successful goal realization. Lead metrics facilitate the tracking of progress and provide illuminating feedback which enables us to adjust our strategies appropriately for maximum efficacy. Implementing a lead metrics system not only maximizes productivity, but also fosters team spirit as everyone has a sense of direction and knows exactly what contributes to the achievement of the common goal. In this light, understanding lead metrics can be transformative to a team, improving every member's efficacy and the overall performance of the team.

Lead Pastor

  • Initiate and conduct at least 4 stewardship sermons or teachings per year emphasizing the importance and biblical perspective of giving.
  • Cultivate personal relationships with the congregation by arranging 30 home visits minimum within the year, to better understand their needs and help them understand church's vision and goals.
  • Guide and lead the congregation in generous giving, by developing a personal giving plan as an example of commitment to the church's mission and vision.

Elder

  • Develop a plan for at least 4 workshops or seminars for the congregation on resources management and spiritual aspects of financial giving.
  • Perform bi-annual review of giving trends in the congregation and provide insightful feedback to the pastorship team on potential areas of improvement and address any giving deficit.
  • Ensure follow up with at least 80% of the visitors who come to the church, within a week of their visit, fostering a deep and lasting relationship with potential givers.

Discipleship Pastor

  • Pioneer at least 4 financial stewardship small group studies per year to raise awareness about the importance of giving.
  • Create an adoption plan that seeks to integrate new believers into small groups faster, with the goal of seeing 70% of new believers joining a group within their first month. This will foster greater community and commitment, both of which correlate positively with giving.
  • Develop and implement a 'mentorship initiative' where established givers are partnered with newer members or lesser giving households, promoting the culture of giving within the spiritual community.

Administrative Assistant

  • Coordinate the creation of an online or electronic giving system, aiming for a user engagement rise by 30% within the year.
  • Produce compelling and enlightening monthly financial updates and newsletters to keep the congregation informed about progress towards financial goals and the tangible impacts of their giving.
  • Implement a 'thank you program' that ensures every giver is personally thanked, feeling valued and improving the likelihood of consistent giving.

In pursuing our goal to increase the number of households giving generously, it is crucial that other roles not explicitly covered in this document also develop appropriate lead metrics. Look at each role in the church and ask, "what can this role contribute towards our overall goal?" Lead metrics should flow naturally from the answer to this question.

To ensure successful implementation of these lead metrics, take the time to clearly articulate the metrics to each individual and provide the opportunity for them to give feedback, ask questions, and present ideas. Remember, these lead metrics aren't a final determination, but a starting point; they should be periodically evaluated and adjusted as necessary. Use prayer, discussion, and collective brainstorming to arrive at metrics that will serve the Lord and our church. As Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 3:9, "We are coworkers in God's service." We function best when we work together towards our God-given pursuits.
